What an adult ADHD assessment costs in Ireland
Price and waiting times in 2026, for both the free public route and the private and online clinics, so you can decide what is worth it before you spend anything.

The public route: free, and slow
Your GP refers you to the HSE adult ADHD service for your area. It costs nothing, which for many people makes it the right route. The problem is capacity, which is far behind demand. There are only around seven funded adult ADHD teams in the country, several regions (including parts of the west, the south east and north Dublin) have no service at all, and where waits are reported they run from roughly 18 months to four years. Some catchments have paused new referrals entirely. None of that is a reason not to join the list; your place costs nothing and you can pursue other options while you wait.

The private and online route: from about €930
A private adult ADHD assessment in Ireland typically costs somewhere between €930 and €1,500. It usually involves a detailed clinical interview covering your current life and your childhood, sometimes across more than one session, with a written report at the end. Waits run from a week or two to a few months. Many clinics now assess entirely by video, and a lot of them accept self-referral: you book directly and share the report with your GP afterwards. As a guide to the current market, published prices in 2026 include assessments around €930, around €1,085, and around €1,279, with some providers offering instalments. Verify the exact, current price and what it includes with any clinic before you book, because these change.

One thing to check before you pay privately
If medication might follow, ask who carries out the assessment. A diagnosis from a psychologist may not be enough on its own to start medication, and you can be asked to be reassessed by a psychiatrist first. Long-term prescribing usually depends on your GP agreeing a shared-care arrangement, which some GPs decline. Ask a clinic these questions before booking: what is the total cost including the report, who does the assessment and are they a consultant psychiatrist, will the diagnosis be accepted for medication, and can prescribing be shared with my GP afterwards.
And the cost nobody quotes you
The assessment fee is not always the end of it. If medication follows, there is usually a separate physical check, commonly done by your own GP rather than the clinic that diagnosed you, and your practice may charge for that appointment.
